RAMF rdr-files for Preliminary Processing

In the following pages appear the commands files ("rdr-files") used to perform the preliminary processing of the TOGA COARE data set using the FIAMS aircraft data processing package, RAMF. The RAMF version used is Version 8 (R8), the manual for which is available from FIAMS (RAMF Version 8 Manual, 7th July, 1993) in WordPer- fect 5.1 format.

It should be stressed that, at the time of writing of this document, the TOGA COARE data set was still being processed, and it therefore cannot be guaranteed that these rdr- files are final versions. However, any further modifications that may occur are likely to be minor. The rdr-files whose names start with numbers (1a, 2b ... etc.) are the standard rdr-files for processing of EOS data sets, and stay largely unchanged from experiment to experiment. The standard rdr-files interface with a number of "auxillary" rdr-files which provide the experiment/flight-specific data. A number of these auxillary rdr-files (pertaining directly to the TOGA COARE data set) are included here for completeness, but will not be given in entirety, as the information therein has already been provided in the chapters above. Briefly, the contents of the rdr-files are as follows:-

Standard rdr-files

1a_v3tos: Decoding of raw logger file; split-up of flights into runs.
		    2a_lycal: Calibration of Lyman-alpha.
2b_atcal: Calibration of ATD humidity sensor.
3a_bmet: Calibration/despiking/conversions of basic meteorological channels.
3b_bflux: Calibration/despiking/conversions of fast "flux" channels.
		    3c_bchm: Calibration/despiking/conversions of chemistry channels.
4a_agps: Alignment and conversion of GPS data.
4b_ains: Compute and align aircraft velocities from INS data.
		    4c_brad: Calibration/despiking/conversions of radiometric channels.
5a_kuvw: 3-D wind vector; derived meteorological quantities (, q etc.).
6a_derst: Conversion to distance coordinates; statistics (inc. fluxes).

Auxillary rdr-files (WARNING: these change from flight to flight)

		    general.all:	General experiment parameters.
calcoef.ces:	Calibration coefficients (not humidity or radiometry).
		    eppyrcal.inc:Calibration equations for radiometers.
chanlst: Lists of names of available channels at different processing stages.
runs: Flight-dependant and run-dependant parameters, including humidity
					calibration information.
v3toruns: Cut-up of flights into runs by analog element-number (used in
					1a_v3tos).
		    landmarks.tc:Landmark information for flight tracks.
map.xx: Landmass map information for flight tracks.
