Introduction

During the months of January and February, 1993, the twin-engined meteorological research aircraft EOS, owned and operated by FIAMS (Flinders Institute for Atmospheric and Marine Sciences), was utilised as a data gathering platform over the western equatorial Pacific Ocean, as part of the international experiment TOGA COARE (Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere - Coupled Ocean Atmosphere Response Experiment).

This report describes the instrumentation systems mounted aboard EOS at the time of these flights, and provides a comprehensive "road map" to the raw data set collected, including information regarding data quality, failures and other peculiarities. In addition, a summary of calibration information and the steps used for the preliminary processing of the data are described.
